The research activities of the satellite group started in 1996 at the University of Heidelberg with the analysis of the spectra of the recently launched satellite instrument GOME on ERS-2. Since then, also the spectra of additional instruments (e.g. SCIAMACHY on ENVISAT, or GOME-2 on METOP) are analysed and it is possible to derive the global distributions of several atmospheric trace gases like NO2, BrO, OClO, HCHO, CHOCHO, SO2, H2O, CO, CH4. Additional research areas cover the determination of cloud and aerosol properties and the simulation of the atmospheric radiative transfer. |
