| The German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) is an institute of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). With the Remote Sensing Technology Institute Methodology (IMF), the DFD forms the Cluster Applied Remote Sensing (C-AF) – the center of competence for Earth observation in Germany. It is located in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich.
Research and development at the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) covers all domains of remote sensing of the Earth. The technological focus is on building integrated multi-mission ground segments for Earth observation missions. Data from all national and many international satellite missions are received, processed, archived and made accessible for the customer. DFD is developing procedures and information systems to meet urgent challenges caused by global change and human impact. Based on environmental monitoring, data assimilation and modelling, DLR-DFD produce solutions for early warning systems, sustainable development, disaster management, health, and security of the citizen. DFD operates dedicated user services, such as the Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information (ZKI), the GeoVisualization Center (GeoVIS), the World Data Center for Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere (WDC-RSAT) and jointly with IMF an Optical Airborne Remote Sensing and Calibration Facility. DFD customizes and performs user driven earth observation applications and works closely together with users from government, NGOs and industry, in National as well as in European and International net-works. |
