User consultation

Sand and Dust Storm preparatory ESA/WMO Expert Consultation Meeting

A user consultation meeting to prepare for a potential Sand and Dust Storm monitoring project was held at the technical University of Catalonia (Spain) on 8 and 9 September.

30+ participants from ESA member states, China, Korea, and the United States attended. Users, dust storm modellers and dust algorithm experts representing meteorological services, air quality and the health communities, space agencies, as well as the WMO (co-organizer) and ECMWF participated. User requirements for near-real time satellite data to support Sand and Dust Storm were drafted and are currently under review by the broader end-user community.
