The Department of transport, infrastructure and environment (DTEE) of the Canton Valais is responsible for:

• construction and maintenance of roads and rivers,
• police control of constructions,- transport and communications,
• forests and landscape,
• the cantonal laboratory,
• environmental protection,
• public buildings,
• protection of the sites and historic buildings,
• archaeological exploration and research,

According to Federal Law of 1991, the Canton has the legal mandate: to identify and delimitate the landslide-prone risk areas and to realise the hazard map for the whole Canton.
