The "Climate and Cryosphere" (CliC) project was established by the WCRP in March 2000. CliC addresses the entire cryosphere (i.e., snow cover, sea-, lake- and river- ice, glaciers, ice sheets, ice caps and ice shelves, and frozen ground including permafrost) and its relation to climate. The principal goal of CliC is to assess and quantify the impacts of climatic variability and change on components of the cryosphere and their consequences for the climate system, and determine the stability of the global cryosphere.
