The DWA is the technical department of the Ministry. The MEWD is the executive wing of the Government of the Republic of Zambia that is responsible for water policy definition and water resources management and development. A Cabinet Minister heads it. Its mission is “to promote sustainable development and management of water resources to ensure availability of quality, affordable safe water to enhance national socio-economic developmentâ€. The DWA is responsible for water resources management and development. Specifically, the DWA undertakes water rights investigations, hydrological and hydrology investigations, water resources information management, groundwater and surface water development.
