BALU, a DUP demonstration project for the management of the burned forested areas, will hold a user workshop on the 24th June 2003, at the CNR ITABC in Monterotondo Station (Rome).
The User Workshop will present the results of the BALU Project, Burned Areas Land Use change detection, financed by the DUP programme.
The aim of the Project is the set up of an effective methodology to identify land use changes over forest burned areas in the whole Italian territory. The project is based on the use of satellite images, with the periodic supply of thematic maps realized in order to be directly used inside GIS systems.
The service, addressed to all the companies and agencies interested in the application of the Italian law 253/2000, which forbids building of new artificial structures within damaged areas, has been realized by Planetek Italia, Intecs and GIM, with the support of the APAT (Agency for Environment Protection in Italy) as a test user. During the workshop it will be presented the results of the project in 3 test areas.
